2018 EDITION

The seventh edition of Los Cabos International Film Festival was held  from November 7th to 11th in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Its program included 41 national and international films: 2 world premieres, 17 Latin American premieres, 15 Mexican premieres and over 80 screenings.

VIDEO EXCEPTIONAL CONTRIBUTION TO CINEMA HISTORY TRIBUTE

  The Festival was honored to pay tribute to Spike Lee for being one of the most important voices in contemporary cinema, for his strong career and the way in which it has had an effect and inspired other filmmakers, as well as society as a whole, by making it question the status quo. Not only did Spike Lee’s work revolutionize film art during the second half of the twentieth century; its relevance is compelling and its message, to this day, is more pressing than ever.

 VIDEO EXCEPTIONAL CONTRIBUTION TO CINEMA HISTORY TRIBUTE

  During the opening ceremony, the Festival honored the screenwriter, director, actor and comedian, Terry Gilliam, who through his legendary films, such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Brazil (1985) and 12 Monkeys (1995) has influenced entire generations and has left his mark in cinema History.

VIDEO OUTSTANDING WORK IN CINEMA

  The Festival recognized the actor Adam Driver, due to his impressive career in cinema worldwide, and who has worked beside great filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Jim Jarmusch, Steven Soderbergh, Spike Lee and Terry Gilliam, amongst others.

  The Festival was proud to present this award to Piers Handling, executive director of the Toronto International Film Festival for 23 years, that has been a key promotor of the North America cinema,

Los Cabos International Film Festival 2018 winners, where:

OFFICIAL SELECTION

Cinemex – México Primero Award: Feral, by Andrés Kaiser. The film’s director received $300,000 MXN thanks to Cinemex.

Los Cabos Competition Special Mention: We The Animals, by Jeremiah Zagar.

Los Cabos Competition Award: Genèse, by Philippe Lesage. The film’s producer’s received a cash prize of $300,000 MXN.

Cinemex Audience Award: Birds of Passage, by Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra. This film received $300,000 MXN for earning the audience vote.

FIPRESCI Award: Feralby Andrés Kaiser. Three members of the International Federation of Film Critics awarded this prize, aimed at supporting a Mexican film internationally.

Art Kingdom Trailer Award: Feral, by Andrés Kaiser. A $14,000 USD award from Art Kingdom Showbiz Agency to produce a film trailer, and equivalent to services starting with the creative process and completed with a DCP copy

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – TV IN DEVELOPMENT

BOBO Award: The Devil’s Advocates. $100,000 MXN for the development of this project

Promo Trailer Art Kingdom Award: The Devil’s Advocates. A prize worth US $5,000, for creative process and postproduction services for a promo trailer.

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – FILM IN DEVELOPMENT

Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund Award – Film In Development: Neza, by Julio Hernández Cordón, received $100,000 MXN in cash.

CTT Exp & Rentals + Chemistry Platform Award: El hoyo en la cerca, by Joaquín del Paso. These two companies jointly awarded a double prize worth $1,283,911 MXN in film equipment rental and $1,789,416 MXN in postproduction services.

CTT Exp & Rentals Award: Estado del imperio, by Amat Escalante. This project received $813,067 MXN in film equipment rental.

Talent On The Road Award / World Talent House: Viaje al país de los tarahumaras, by Federico Cecchetti. The film crew working on this film received a prize of $150,000 MXN.

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – WORK IN PROGRESS

Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund Award – Work in Progress: Mano de obra, by David Zonana. A $100,000.00 MXN cash prize for a film in postproduction stage.

Chemistry Award: Mano de obra, by David Zonana, received an award worth $945,864.00 for post-production services.

Cinecolor México Award: Ya no estoy aquí, by Fernando Frías, received an award valued in $443,700.00 MXN, equivalent to 100 hours of color correction services at the sponsor’s premises.

The Marché du Film Award, which consists of an accreditation for the producer of the winning project, to attend to the Producers Network Platform which will take place in Cannes 2019, was granted to Ona Sur.

Film Critic Contest Winner: Arantxa Luna. This young critic received this acknowledgement, awarded for the second time by the Los Cabos International Film Festival, SensaCine and the Huffington Post.
