Industry Jury invited to a welcome breakfast on the Ocean Blue Magazine’s yacht

Los Cabos International Film Festival hosted a welcome breakfast for the Industry Jury as its first activity. This year, our Cabos Discovery Jury is formed by David Kaplan, co-founder of Animal Kingdom; Anick Poirier, Vicepresident at Seville International, and Cristian Conti, General Director at Dynamo. In this program, 12 projects from Mexico, the USA and Canada will be invited to attend one-on-one meetings with outstanding film-industry figures, as well as competing for a cash prize of USD 8,000. The jury will also select one of the producers participating in Cabos Discovery to get accreditation for the 2016 Producers Network, a program of the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film.

On the other hand, the participants in Cabos in Progress will be 6 Mexican films in the post-production stage. The jury will choose the winner, who will receive a cash prize of USD 10,000. In addition, 4 films will be chosen to take part in Los Cabos Goes to Cannes, a selection of projects to be presented at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film. Los Cabos Film Festival will cover transport expenses, and the Marché du Film will provide industry accreditations. Besides, FOX+ will pay an advance of USD 30,000 for the rights to broadcast one of these participating films in Latin America. The jury is formed by Édouard Waintrop, Artistic Director at Cannes Film Festival’s Quinzaine des realisateurs; Dennis Lim, Director of Programming at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and Emilie Georges, General Director at Memento Films International.

Other special guests participating in this event were the FIPRESCI jury members: Marietta Steinhart, film critic for Ray Filmmagazin – Die Zeit Online; Nachum Mochiach, film critic, writer and entertainment editor; and Lucy Virgen, programmer, film critic and journalist at El ojo que piensa. This jury will award the Prize of the International Critics to the best film in the México Primero competition.

This meeting was held on the Ocean Blue Magazine’s yacht, Groove, which was dressed by the fashion design company Tommy Hilfiger. On the yacht, guests enjoyed breakfast during a short escapade in the Pacific waters, where they could appreciate the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, an idyllic setting that is ideal to start this fourth edition.
