Los Cabos Film Festival Confirms the Members of The Industry Jury
Los Cabos International Film Festival confirms the six members of the industry jury who will choose the winners of Cabos Discovery and Cabos in Progress during its fourth edition to be held from the 11th to the 15th of November, which includes the Director of The Directors’ Fortnight (La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs), the Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the General Director of Memento Films, among other Industry leaders.
Besides evaluating the projects in the development stage and the films in the post-production stage that will compete this year, the jury members add up to over more of 800 the Industry professionals that visit Los Cabos including head of programming of International Festivals, as Berlinale, Semaine de la Critique, Telluride, SXSW, Tribeca, Toronto and MoMA’s New Director/New Film.
In Cabos Discovery, 12 projects from Mexico, the USA and Canada will have access to one-on-one meetings with outstanding film-industry figures, as well as competing for a cash prize of USD 8,000.
Furthermore, the jury will award an accreditation for the 2016 edition of the Producers Network program that will form part of the Cannes Festival’s Marché du Film to one of the producers participating in Cabos Discovery.
6 Mexican films in post-production stage will participate in Cabos in Progress. The jury will choose the winner, who will receive a cash prize of USD 10,000.
In addition, 4 films will be chosen to take part in Los Cabos Goes to Cannes in the 2016 Marché du Film and show their work. Los Cabos Film Festival will cover transport expenses, and the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film will provide industry accreditation for the filmmakers to take part in this renowned market.
And for third year, Fox+ will pay an advance of USD 30,000 for the rights to broadcast one of the participating films in Latin America via its channel window.
Los Cabos Film Festival is growing in importance every day for both the Mexican and the international film industries, with the participation of important companies and outstanding international festivals in this space of cultural and commercial exchange.
In this fourth edition, Crosscreek Productions (USA) – Producer of Black Swan; Management 360 (USA) – Executive Producer of Game of Thrones, and Blackbear Pictures (USA) – Producer of The Imitation Game will attend.
As well, other important companies will be present: Participant Media (USA), The Weinstein Company (USA), Sundance TV (USA), Paramount Pictures (USA), Fox Searchlight (USA), HBO (USA), Miramax (USA), A24 (USA), Seville International (Canada), Serendipity Point Films (Canada), Fábrica de Cine (México), Semaine de la Critique du Festival de Cannes (Francia), Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (France), Telluride Film Festival (USA), Tribeca Film Festival (USA), SXSW (USA), Quebec Cinéma (Canada/Quebec) y Sarajevo Film Festival (Bosnia-Herzegovina), among others.
For the first year, the Festival will be launching the Industry Office by ProMéxico, for the purpose to support filmmakers and companies to create a cultural and commercial interchange, to take place November 12th, 13th and 14th. Undoubtedly, the Industry Office by ProMéxico will serve as a forum where the industry deals close within the context of this year’s Festival (2014: over 15 deals were closed).
Fort the third year running, the Festival will present Meet Your Neighbors, aimed at strengthening professional links, fostering discussion and the exchange of ideas, bringing people closer together, and promoting creative exchange and project sharing via round-table sessions in Pitahayas Restaurant, one of the most important and distinctive restaurants in Los Cabos, on the edge of the Sea of Cortés.
Los Cabos International Film Festival is ready once again to welcome over 800 film-industry professionals, holding Industry activities that bring together representatives from Mexico, USA and Canada.
