Los Cabos International Film Festival Call For Entries 2019

One of the commitments of Los Cabos International Film Festival is to support talent from Mexico, North America, and Latin America through proactive and risky programming that can connect and converse with broader audiences.

For this reason, we invite directors and producers to register their films in the different spaces that the Festival offers to promote the cinema we believe in: Official Selection, for finished films; and the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund, for projects in development and works in progress. 

For this eighth edition, to be held from November 13th to 17th in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, we thank our allies and partners who through various awards also bet on supporting Mexican talent in film. Thank you to each of them for believing in Los Cabos International Film Festival and enabling the development and growth of our film industry: Cinemex, CTT EXP & Rentals, Cinecolor México, FIPRESCI, Chemistry, Talent On The Road/World Talent House, Art Kingdom, Piano, Tribeca Film Institute and Independent Filmmaker Project!

Registration for finished films:

COMPETENCIA LOS CABOS. Feature-length fiction or documentary, produced or co-produced with Mexico, USA or Canada.

Competencia Los Cabos Award: $300,000 MXN (three hundred thousand Mexican pesos) in cash.

MÉXICO PRIMERO. Feature-length fiction or documentary, produced or co-produced with Mexico.

These films will compete for the following prizes:

  1. Cinemex México Primero Award: $300,000.00 MXN (three hundred thousand Mexican pesos) cash award for the director.
  2. The International Federation Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Award for filmic excellence.
  3. Art Kingdom Trailer Award: Creative process, production and post-production services for a film trailer, poster and social media strategy and campaign worth $760,000 MXN (seven hundred sixty thousand Mexican pesos).

All Mexican films participating in Competencia Los Cabos and México Primero are eligible for the Cinemex Audience Award of $300,000 MXN (three hundred thousand Mexican pesos) cash prize.

Registration for films and episodic contents in development, and films in post-production:

In its capacity as an industry platform, the Festival calls on film and television directors and producers to register projects that are in the development and post-production stages. The Festival will select 20 entries from all projects submitted: 5 Works in Progress10 Film Projects in Development, and 5 Episodic Contents in Development, whose representatives will have the opportunity to attend one-on-one Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund Meetings with renowned members of the International film industry.

GFFF – FILMS IN DEVELOPMENT

Fiction or documentary feature-length works, produced or co-produced with Mexico, USA or Canada are eligible to participate.

10 entries will be selected to compete for the following prizes:

  1. CTT EXP & Rentals Award: With a value of $1,283,911.20 MXN (one million, two hundred eighty-three thousand, nine hundred eleven and twenty cents Mexican pesos) of filming equipment rental for four weeks (camera and optic). 
  2. Talent On The Road/ World Talent House Award grants $150,000.00 MXN (one hundred and fifty thousand Mexican pesos) in cash to film projects in development stage produced by or co-produced with Mexico.
  3. Piano Award of $ 100,000.00 MXN in cash for distribution in Mexico. Piano makes available to the winner, the possibility of a distribution intention letter.
  4. Projects exchange with Tribeca Film Institute. One of the participating projects will be selected to participate in TFI – Network 2020. The prize includes the round flight for a project’s representative.
  5. Projects exchange with the Independent Filmmaker Project. One of the participating projects will be selected to participate in the No Borders program of IFP – Project Forum. The prize includes the round flight for a project’s representative.

GFFF – EPISODIC CONTENTS IN DEVELOPMENT

Fiction or documentary Episodic Content in Development Stage (series, webseries or episodic content projects for television or digital platforms: OTT, streaming, social media), produced by or co-produced with Mexico or any other Latin American country. Plotlines for entries must be contained within a one-season span, in dramatically or thematically related episodes.

5 entries will be selected to compete for the following prizes:

  1. CTT EXP & Rentals Series Award with a value of $ 498,533.20 MXN (four hundred and ninety-eight thousand five hundred thirty-three with twenty cents Mexican pesos). Includes film crew for 5 days trailer filming.
  2. Cinecolor México Award TV Trailer valued in $348,000.00 MXN (three hundred forty-eight thousand Mexican pesos). Includes post-production services.
  3. Art Kingdom Promo Trailer Award and creative strategy valued in $97,500 MXN (ninety-seven thousand five hundred Mexican pesos).

GFFF – WORK IN PROGRESS

Fiction or documentary feature-length works in the post-production stage, produced or co-produced with Mexico, are eligible to participate.

5 entries will be selected to compete for the following prizes:

  1. Los Cabos Work in Progress Award: $200,000.00 MXN (two hundred thousand Mexican pesos) cash prize.
  2. Chemistry Award: $1,542,600.MXN (one million five hundred and forty-two thousand six hundred Mexican pesos), in post-production services.
  3. Cinecolor México Award: $443,700.00 MXN (four hundred forty-three thousand seven hundred Mexican pesos), equivalent to 100 hours of color correction services and one DCP.
