Los Cabos International Film Festival 7th edition finished with success. For 5 days, a national and international audience gathered before the screens of Los Cabos, while hundreds of professionals from the film industries of Mexico, United States and Canada, worked extensively in negotiations that materialized possibilities for new film and tv projects.

During the Festival, the Tribute for Exceptional Contribution to Cinema History was granted to filmmakers Spike Lee and Terry Gilliam; the Outstanding Work In Cinema recognition was given to actor Adam Driver, while Piers Handling, TIFF’s CEO and Director, received the Outstanding Work At Film Industry recognition.

During this edition, our press guests were invited to special conversations held between director Spike Lee and his most frequent collaborator, actor Roger Guenveur Smith; filmmaker Terry Gilliam and Mexican writer Juan Villoro; actor Adam Driver and film critic and Mexican journalist, Arturo Aguilar; and Piers Handling with Mexican film critic, Leonardo García Tsao. The Festival also presented the panel Journalists in Cinema and Culture. Conquered territories, which deepen in the important place that women occupy in film critic and cultural journalism, and the resulted impact in film production. The Festival also celebrated the success of its new program Cine en la playa, which gathered hundreds of attendees to enjoy Mexican cinema under the starry sky that covers El Médano beach.

In our 7th edition within the frame of Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund we held hundreds of meetings among industry professionals and representatives of film and tv projects from México, USA and Canada. 215 companies coming from 17 different countries gathered up in this event that once more brought together the film community of North America.

Some of the activities held in our Industry area where:

Renowned producers Paula Vaccaro (founder of Pinball London Ltd., production company that has worked with director Guillermo Arriaga, Emir Kusturica and Sally Potter) and Aaron Brookner (director of Uncle Howard and The Silver Goat) presented for the first time a private workshop in Los Cabos International Film Festival. This intensive workshop, was given to the representatives of the projects selected to be featured in the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund – TV Series In Development category, and it focused in strengthening their pitching techniques to present their projects to a selected group of producers, sales agents, and representatives of digital platforms.

This panel, presented in collaboration with the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), reunited directors, producers and showrunners of some of the most important series of moment: Narcos, She’s gotta have it, El Chapo, Anne with an E, The Bisexual and Luis Miguel, la serie. In this gathering, our panel members shared their own experiences and talked about the pros and cons of an industry that is reshaping the way content is produced and consumed.

In collaboration with our Industry allies Cinecolor, CTT Exp & Rentals, Chemistry, Talent on the Road/World Talent House, Art Kingdom and BOBO; Los Cabos International Film Festival granted almost 300,000.00 USD in cash and services among the 11 film projects in development stage, the 5 works in progress and the 5 TV Series projects participating in the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund Meetings.

During three days the representatives of these projects participated in a series of pitching sessions, one on one meetings and market screenings with more than 200 industry professionals attending.

We also will like to thank Tribeca Film Institute, the Independent Filmmaker Project, and the Mercado, Industria, Cine y Audiovisual (MICA)  for their support and collaboration to bring together the amazing selection of projects presented in in this edition.
