One summer in the early 80’s, Leningrad’s youth dances to the beat of Bri- tish and American rock bands. Mike (Roman Bilyk) lives his life, oblivious of Soviet borders —both physical and ideological— and introduces a group of youngsters to Western music in a bid to inspire them to feel free to express their own weariness and angst; the impending danger of censorship is always hanging over their heads but they still allow themselves to dream about a concert in which fans are free to dance and jump around.
When Viktor (Teo Yoo) bursts onto the scene, Mike and his partner Natasha (Irina Starshenbaum) are completely blown away by his presence, and Natasha is unable to ignore the attraction she feels for the newcomer.
With Iggy Pop and Talking Heads as their soundtrack, nostalgic black and white choreographed sequences, with sudden bursts of color shot in super eight, fill our eyes and ears. Leto gives us an insight into the dreams of a young generation from a distant time and place, but that somehow resonate with us.
