Camille (Rachelle Vinberg) is a shy and lonely teenager from Long Island, whose greatest passion in life is skating. After suffering an accident while practicing, she ignores her mother’s orders to lay off skating for a while and in doing so, she meets an all-girl skateboarding crew known as Skate Kitchen. All the girls have cool hairdos and clothes, boasting a defying attitude, which allows them to earn a spot within New York’s rinks in a male-dominated sport. Camille creates strong friendship bonds, which protect her will to lead a more independent and free life. She meets a young photographer (Jaden Smith), who she falls in love with, shaking her relationship with the girls.

Crystal Moselle skillfully intertwines fiction and reality – working in collaboration with her protagonists, authentic Skate Kitchen skaters – in order to offer the electric portrait of a female group that builds a strong community in order to exist.
