The financial ravages of the 1982 Mexican recession are finally starting to take a toll on Sofía, an elegant, charming and seemingly perfect socialité. Nevertheless, she fights to keep up appearances within her circle of friends, but will soon suffer the backlash of running out of money.
This film, directed by Alejandra Márquez and based on Guadalupe Loaeza’s successful novel, lays bare the social corsets imposed on women. Hand in hand with a fitting cast, Las niñas bien takes a feminine empathetic look at a self-absorbed social class living an oppressed and mundane life.
