Renowned actress Behnaz Jafari abandons a film set after receiving the disturbing video of a young country girl pleading for help, terrified of being assaulted by her family for having been accepted in the Drama Conservatory of Tehran to study acting. Distraught upon hearing this, Jafary sets on a journey, together with director Jafar Panahi, across rural Iran to find this young lady. They meet an endless number of characters along the way, amongst which is an elderly actress, a celebrity before the Islamic Revolution, who lives in hiding…
This is Panahi’s fourth “clandestine” film in eight years since he was sentenced to twenty years without filming. With a remarkable, simple yet meticulous mise-en-scène, this film delves into the contrast between the most conservative traditions of the patriarchy that is enforced in the country, and the solidarity between three actresses from different generations and socio-economical backgrounds.
